We’re good people: Mahwah residents defend town against anti-Semitism charge

MAHWAH – Township residents turned out in numbers Thursday night to defend Mahwah as a welcoming community after the state accused it of discrimination in a stinging nine-count complaint earlier this week.

A string of residents used the public speaking session to vouch for their town, defending it as a place that has been depicted inaccurately by media reports and, some said, its own mayor.

There were a lot of “That’s right” and “Mm hmms” from the audience as positive descriptions of Mahwah were made by residents at the microphone and applause filled the room when “The media” was criticized for its coverage of Porrino’s complaint.

While speaking with reporters, she was approached by two other residents who were attending the meeting – one of whom asked for her address, seemingly questioning that she actually lived in Mahwah.
